For newborns, you may wish to use the hood to form a soft head support. You can fold the hood into thirds onto itself at the top of the carrier body to support the back of an infant's head, as pictured.

Some newborns may prefer to not have their legs out and in this case, it's fine to put them in the uncinched carrier with "froggy" legs, as pictured.
